Ben came into SSRR as an underweight, sluggish, but very sweet boy. He was a bit nervous and would “pancake” with sudden movements or reaching over his head.  It took him a few weeks to break out of his shell but once he did, he showed us how energetic, goofy and snuggly he really was!

Been has done very well getting along with his foster siblings (one male and one female of similar size) and meets new people and dogs like he’s already friends. Ben even respects the cat. Despite being regularly bopped in the face, he always tries to say hello and then walks away after he’s hissed at.  He walks nicely on a leash, rides well in the car and genuinely enjoys just hanging out with people.

Ben knows some basic commands like “sit” and “lay down” but is still working on “stay”.  He has worked on refining his manners (such as taking treats gently) and sitting patiently for doors and gates to open instead of barging through. He does well with two older kids (10+year old girls) in his foster home and would likely do quite well with young kids because of his gentle nature.

Ben does have a lot of energy and will need space to run around and play. He enjoys a good game of fetch but is still learning about returning the ball and what “give” means.

Ben is a SUPER lovable guy who is very much a puppy at heart. He’s a gentle giant who’s a sucker for belly rubs and treats!

He is heartworm positive and is currently undergoing treatment. He’s being kept quiet under crate rest while he recovers and should be able to return to normal activities by mid-to-late September, when he will be available for adoption.

If you are interested in Ben, we are taking adoption applications for him but he will not go to his new home until his heartworm treatment has been completed.

Ben is currently going through heartworm treatment and will not be available for adoption until his treatment has been completed.
