Batman came to us as a 52 lb, emaciated boy who did not seem to have ever lived in a home or received any training or medical care.  He was sweet and loving, and after just a few days, he learned that "good things come to dogs who sit."   As his health improved, his focus turned from people to FOOD.  He is amazingly food motivated--so using kibble or treats as a training tool ensures his attention.  Meal time is a joyful occasion, and he hops up on two feet in anticipation of his meal.  In spite of this, he will sit, and even "wait" momentarily before diving into a bowl placed in front of him.  There are very few things he will not eat, but putting a couple tangerine slices in the bowl slows down the velocity at which he eats, so maybe he will enjoy, or at least taste, his food.  :)    He now weighs a little under 75 lbs, a good weight for his slender frame, and often gets compliments on how handsome he is now.

Batman will be a very high energy dog, once he is able to return to normal activity.  Because of all his energy, he is less interested in cuddle and more interested in PLAY.   The big exception is his "expectation" of a morning belly rub before he gets out of his crate.  Batman loves rough housing and play with his female doggie sister, who is virtually the same size and just a few months older.  He enjoys leash-walking (on hold until he completes HW treatment) and currently requires a gentle leader.  If he squirms out of it, he becomes a sled dog.  He’s very friendly, and has been to Home Depot where he made many friends (and thankfully did not "water" any of the merchandise!)

Batman LOVES chewing--he gets rawhides, marrow bones, knuckle bones, and other treats to help occupy him.  He also loves toys and is very playful.

Batman has an odd shuffling gait, almost walking like an "old man" despite his young age.  Hip x-rays revealed that his right hip is likely to become dysplastic at some point in the future, but the left hip is ok.  (It's a good way to identify which dog is walking across the kitchen without looking!)

Batman has been to the beach twice... It was not "love at first sight" with the Gulf of Mexico, and he could not get away from the water fast enough.  Once he is able to do so, we will try again with other bodies of water to get him acclimated and used to the joys of swimming (and cooling off!)

He shares a home with two cats (one who is 14 years old and has only one eye.)  The cats are used to dogs and do not run, but they also don't try to snuggle with him either.  Batman sometimes barks at them and/or wants to paw or chase them, but it is all in play, rather than aggression.  He responds to correction if he gets too exuberant.

Due to his initial weakness and poor health, the only dog he has had any meaningful interaction with is our female Rottie foster sister.  She has never had an issue with any dog--so the fact that they get along is not surprising.   Previously, when both were walking on leash, he was quite vocal towards other dogs on the
street.
